From the Principal

Dear families,
This week marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. This year’s theme is Bridging Now to Next which urges us to look ahead to a future of unity. Across our school and Children’s Centre, all learners will participate in a range of activities based around this theme. We will share these activities on our facebook page for families to see each day.
Our school is being recognised for the reconciliation work we are doing. Last week, we presented with Reconciliation SA to wellbeing leaders across the state about our anti-racism work. Every adult at our school knows the importance of identifying and calling out racism. We are really proud to say that this is supporting our learners to feel proud of their identities and cultures and for us all to celebrate diversity.
Think Pair Share Our Learning Advisors are being very intentional about getting every child to talk more about their learning. To do this, we are focussing on a strategy called Think Pair Share. This is where the LA will ask a question about the learning, give learners time to think about it, then pair up with another child to share their thinking. We are aiming for our learners to not only recount facts or knowledge about the learning, but also to consider the perspectives of others and to connect what they know to other learning areas. It has been great to hear what our Young Leaders think of this. They are sharing with us about what makes it hard to share, and when they feel less confident to share.
I have been really impressed with the learning that our LAs are doing to improve their teaching strategies. We are having lots of productive conversations about this and learning from each other.
Young Leaders and learner agency Recently, our Young Leaders joined other learners from a range of schools to delve into a problem they would like to solve. This is in relation to our learning aspirations: That every child is engaged, thinking and empowered. One suggestion they came up with is that they get to talk more about the learning they have done today rather than what they enjoyed. Great insights! See below some photos from this day.
Parking around the school Just a reminder that our school car park is for staff parking and our buses to pick up and drop off our learners. There are drop off zones at the front and rear of the school where you can drop children off or collect them from.
Making contact with Learning Advisors We encourage families to make contact with Learning Advisors if you would like to discuss your child’s learning. This can happen at any time throughout the year. If you would like to make a time to speak with your child’s Learning Advisor, you can ask for a time via Seesaw or through the front office.
Enjoy this cooler weather.
Kind regards,
Leonie

Purple East

This term in Purple East, we have delved into the world of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) to enhance students' understanding of their world, both past and present. Our focus has been on exploring families, toys, school, and communication. Through HASS, we are concentrating on developing skills in critical inquiry, fostering curiosity, and expanding their knowledge of change in the world. This journey is helping students appreciate diversity and understand the importance of responsible citizenship.

Purple West
Learning in Purple West
It’s been a busy few weeks in Purple West. We have been practicing lots of skills such as working together, building friendships, working as a team and becoming resilient, curious and resourceful learners.
Our learners have particularly enjoyed working in teams by learning to share, take turns and work collaboratively. Here are a few examples.

During literacy, our studios have been working on learning their letter sounds and tricky words. Our Receptions now know 15 letter sounds and 12 tricky words! They are beginning to practice using these skills to write sentences, demonstrating the school value ‘be brave – participate to progress!’ We look forward to continuing this learning next term.
