From the Principal
Dear families,
We have had a fabulous start to Term 2 and are very excited by the learning experiences that are planned.
Learner Agency Network: Our Young Leaders will be joining 70 students from other schools at the Education Development Centre on Monday. They will be discussing our school’s learning aspirations of Engaged, Thinking, Empowered learners and deciding on what they might give a go around this. This will provide our Young Leaders with an active role in our school learning journey. Stay tuned for highlights from the day.
Raffle focus: You may have heard about the raffle that we are running each fortnight (our learners are very excited about it!). This term, children will receive a raffle ticket if they are seen demonstrating kindness:
- Kindness to themselves (eg by being resilient)
- Kindness to others (helping others, having positive behaviours so others feel safe)
- Kindness to our environment (by picking up rubbish, or keeping their studios tidy)
Each fortnight during Team Time, we draw a raffle ticket and that ‘winner’ receives a canteen voucher (to buy one item of their choice).
Think Pair Share: Our LAs are reflecting on how they get their learners to talk about their learning, through a strategy called Think Pair Share. Basically, learners are given a question about the learning to think about, they then pair up and share their responses or opinions. It is a great way to build vocabulary, express ideas, listen to the ideas of others’ and deepen thinking. By having a common focus across our staff, we become a learning system, learning from each other and becoming better at reflecting on what we are doing to support learning. Ask your child how they have been sharing their ideas in class, I am sure they will love to tell you.
Staffing: This term we welcome back Kaitlin from her maternity leave. Kaitlin was greatly missed by many of our learners and they have been very pleased to see her again.
We also welcome Eleanor to the Performing Arts role. Eleanor’s skills in music saw the children drumming their hearts away today!
We welcome Patrick to the Yr 5/6 Visual Arts role. Patrick is working alongside our Artist in Residence, Simon aka Stiles Be. Together, they are increasing the Year 5 & 6 learners knowledge, capabilities and dispositions in Art.
We also welcome Marika as an Aboriginal Community Education Officer, joining Sonny and Alice in our Aboriginal Education Team. Marika is looking forward to meeting and supporting our families.
Children’s Centre facelift: Over the holidays, Scott from Rusted Tin created and painted an incredible artwork for the front of our Children’s Centre. The design came from consultation with Children’s Centre families about how they found belonging in the Children’s Centre.

This term, Rusted Tin will design and paint an artwork at the entrance of the school. We are currently seeking family contributions around what this artwork might look like. To do that, we are asking families ‘What do you love about our school?’. You can respond in a range of ways:
- Complete a slip at the front office and pop it in the box there
- Come and have a chat after school in either the piazza or the playground – there will stands there with a staff member ready to listen to your ideas
- Send us a message on seesaw or email
We cannot wait to see what the school facelift will be like!
You are welcome to come in and talk to us at any time if you have concerns or questions about your child’s education. We love taking this journey alongside our families.
Kind regards,
Leonie
From the Kitchen Garden

Monarch Butterflies Galore!
This summer and Autumn we have had so many Monarch Butterflies in our garden. Students and staff have been very interested to see the whole life cycle happening right in front of us, from egg to larva (caterpillar), chrysalis to butterfly and egg again. We have lots of milkweed plants in the garden which is their favourite food and has helped their population.
Please remember to look but not touch with our insects and wildlife in the garden.
Parnati (Autumn) Leaves
We are noticing our deciduous trees starting to pull their energy back from their leaves and into their stems, trunks and roots to store for winter. This is why the leaves are changing from green to yellow / red to brown and then falling off. Nearly time to make leaf litter compost which the soil in our garden loves!
What we have ready to harvest in our garden now:
Apple, Banana, Eggplant, Feijoa, Guava, Lettuce, Lime, Mandarin, Olive, Pumpkin,
Basil, Carrot, Lettuce, Mint, Parsley, Radish, Silverbeet, Warrigal Greens, Wattle seed
What to plant now:
Broad Beans, Broccoli, Carrot, Cauliflower, Celery, Citrus trees, Coriander, Dill, Fennel, Garlic, Kale, Lettuce, Onions, Pak Choi, Peas, Radish, Silverbeet, Spinach,

Autism Inclusion Teacher
Dear Families
I would like to introduce myself as the Autism Inclusion Teacher (AIT) for Blair Athol North B-6 School. I am currently the Aboriginal Education teacher and have taken on this exciting new role for 2025.
Our primary goal is for all students—especially those who are neurodivergent—to feel a true sense of belonging and to be able to express their authentic selves. We are deeply committed to helping students understand the diversity of how brains work, recognize their own sensory needs and preferences, and develop skills for both co-regulation and self-regulation. We believe these are essential foundations for creating a supportive and thriving learning environment.
I am currently working with other AITs, from a variety of school sites across Adelaide, to develop and build upon my current knowledge of working with students with autism.
Kind regards
Alice Paraskevas
