From the Principal
Dear families,
We have so many fabulous learning opportunities occurring at our school at the moment. It has been wonderful to have many of our learners engaged in a range of activities that aim to promote their sense of identify and belonging, and also their cognitive engagement.
Here are some of the experiences our learners are engaged with:
- Student as Researchers. A group of Year 5/6 learners are investigating persistence and resilience across our school. They have been designing surveys, analysing the results, discussing wellbeing data and taking all of this to our partnership schools for a greater discussion. We are eagerly looking forward to the solutions and ideas that they bring back to us around building persistence and resilience at BANB6.
- STEM Aboriginal Congress. A small group of our Aboriginal learners are attending this two-day showcase. It was excellent to see the excitement and interest in the Sciences that these learners showed on their return from Day one. They are very keen to share their experience at an upcoming Team Time!
- Bush Yarnin’ Cultural Day at The Avenues. A group of Year 6 learners had the opportunity to join other partnership school year 6 learners at The Avenues School this week for a cultural day. The day included a range of workshops with an environmental focus.
- Swimming Week. It has been a big two weeks for all learners who participated in swimming lessons. Our learners have been very proud to report on their progress in swimming and it was wonderful to witness their confidence in the water increase over the week.
- Girls Soccer. Some of our upper primary girls competed in a Girls Soccer competition this week. Whilst they won 1 game, and lost another, it was the dispositions they showed throughout that really shone through.
You should receive your child’s NAPLAN results in the coming days. Please make a time with your child’s Learning Advisor if you would like to speak about these results. We are very aware that they are a snapshot in time. As a school, we use multiple measures to understand the learning needs of each child, and NAPLAN is just one of these.
We have two learner-free days for both the school and the Children’s Centre coming up:
- Friday 6th September – School closure day
- Monday 9th September – Student Free Day
OSHC will be open for both of these days.
Neighbourhood News - Yellow West
The sudents have been becoming more familiar with the concept of multiplication. They are making connections by using a think board where they record the tables as arrays, groups of, repeated additions and turn arounds. While focusing and concentrating on the task, Yellow are becoming more aware of the value and importance of working quietly in the studio. After the lesson the students made these comments…
When we are listening and not calling out, we feel calmer and remember better- Emmason
First the learning was hard, but now with practice it is easy and fun- Rachman
Our lesson was quiet, and I was focused and I felt very calm – Sahar
When no-one called out and everyone took their turn, I was more focused, and I learnt more -Omar
When there is too much noise and kids shout the answer then it’s harder to learn and we don’t get our turn to share- Mokhtar
When we are more focused and calmer, we learn more- Everyone
We have also been learning to tell the time in digital and analogue at 5 minute increments, the hour, quarter past, quarter to and half past. We have also looked at how to read the calendar, how it is organised and some special events.
Most students have been learning to use Canva to make colourful posters. We are making a title page for our research and have made a “Book Week “ poster for a book week competition.
