From the Principal
Welcome back to Term 2! Our learners were very excited to be back, it was lovely to see and feel their positive energy this week. We have an action-packed term of learning planned this term and look forward to the many occasions when we can connect with our community.
Family Connections: Family Connections will be held on Tuesday 14th May, from 12pm. School will finish at 12pm on this day, with families welcome to join us in the afternoon for Family Connections 3 way conferences. Stalls, tastings from our Kitchen Garden and other information will be available for families. We are in the midst of finalising this and more information will follow separately.
New from Term 2:
We will be trialling sending an SMS to families when children are absent from school without an explanation. Please let us know if your child is going to be absent from school by sending a message via email, seesaw or phoning our front office.
Thank you
Leonie
Kitchen Garden
Our Nunga Club started their food sessions with Lisa in the kitchen this week. They made Nana’s wattle seed ANZAC biscuits (delicious!) and decorated NICE biscuits with fondant and icing. Very yummy!
The kids really loved hanging out with Lisa and are starting the make plans for future sessions!

Our Kitchen Garden recipes for Jerusalem Artichoke fritters and Garlic Yoghurt are attached. All classes will be making this delicious meal during Term 2.
Neighbourhood News
Red 1, 5 and 6 have had an exciting start to term 2 with the year 6s going to aquatics.
It was a fresh but sunny day, and the learners were courageous trying some new activities for the very first time.
Sailing on a windy day meant they sailed fast along the glistening lake – learning how to steer, important safety regulations and the general operations of a sailing boat.
Next up was canoeing where the learners had to practice using an oar before entering the canoe on the lake. It took teamwork and effort to operate the canoe together and the learners gained some fast speed in rhythmic momentum.
Kayaking was a two-person venture. A lot of muscle was used to paddle with the oars and the learners enjoyed their long cruise along the lake.
Surfing at West beach was for the brave. The wet suits and life jackets worn helped keep out some of the cool air and chilly waters, and the learners had a fabulous time learning the techniques of surfing the waves.

Young Leader News
Our Young Leaders are currently organising themselves into teams to begin their formal contributions to our school. Some of the proposed teams are:
Public Relations: responsible for newsletter articles, Governing Council reports and any other public relations.
Peer Mentors: responsible for lunchtime activities
Student Voice: responsible for collecting learner voice, sharing learner opinions with Learning Advisors and community, supporting the staff formal learning days.
We can’t wait to support their endeavours in this!
Whole School Happenings
This week learners from both Purple and Red participated in First Aid with St John’s Ambulance. This included learning about how to recognise a problem, prioritise their response, know how to get help and keep themselves safe.
