From the Principal
Dear BANB6 Community
I write my final newsletter article to you with a strong feeling of mixed emotions. I certainly feel sad that my time leading our wonderful school community is drawing to a close, but I also feel enormous pride in our school and also gratitude to all of you, our school community for the support and encouragement you have provided me over the four years I have served as Principal.
I have worked in many schools during my 26 years in education, but none have been as special as BANB6. Our school is truly unique in so many ways. We have such beautiful facilities both indoors and outdoors. Our approaches to innovation, outdoor learning and sustainability are unmatched and the opportunities learners have to explore learning experiences beyond the classroom are fabulous.
All this being the case, the most special aspect of our school is its people. I wish to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank the BANB6 staff team who have been a source of inspiration to me from the moment I began my time at the school. We are so lucky to have the people that we do, who care so much for their learners and the school community. I personally thank each and every staff member for their commitment and dedication to our school. I will miss them all dearly.
I also would like to take the opportunity to thank and acknowledge our wonderful Governing Council members who have been an enormous source of support and encouragement during the last four years. Thanks to you all for your time and your service. Our school is blessed to have you as members of our Governing Council. I would like to specially acknowledge Karina White whose time at BANB6 has now come to an end. Karina has served on Governing Council for ten years and her service to our school community cannot be measured. Thanks Karina.
Finally, I welcome Leonie Shelley to BANB6 as Principal from 2024. As I pass on the baton to Leonie, I wish her all the very best as she begins her time leading our school. I’m certain that the school community will support and encourage Leonie during her time leading BANB6.
With Warmest Regards
Darren
Staff Farewells
I would like to acknowledge the following staff who are also leaving BANB6 at the end of the year. Thanks to you all for your service to our school.
Kylie McRostie
Most members of the BANB6 community will know Kylie and the amazing contribution she has made to our school over eleven years. Kylie has taken on the role of Senior Leader – Inclusion at Pennington Primary School from the beginning of 2024.
Kylie’s impact on BANB6 during her time here is immeasurable. It would not be possible to estimate how many hundreds of children and families she has supported over the years. Her knowledge, insight and incredible work ethic is something that she is renowned for (plus much more) and she will be missed enormously by our entire school community.
On behalf of the BANB6 school community I thank Kylie for her wonderful service to our school and wish her all the very best for the future.
Congratulations to Kaitlin Moore who has succesfully won the position of Senior Leader - Inclusivity and Intervention at Banb6 for the next 12 months.
Kim Coyle
Like Kylie, Kim has also been a long serving staff member and leader of our B-6 community. From next year, Kim takes up the role of Early Childhood Leader with the Flinders Park 4 Portfolio, a fabulous opportunity for Kim and true testament to her very broad skills and leadership capabilities.
Kim has been a fabulous leader of the Children’s Centre team and our centre is highly regarded as one of the very best in Adelaide. Her calm approach and wisdom are hallmarks of Kim’s leadership and she too will be very missed.
On behalf of the BANB6 Community I thank Kim for her wonderful service to our school community and most notably our Children’s Centre and wish her all the very best for the future,
Steph McLeod
Steph has been our Kitchen Specialist for the previous two years and will begin various new roles within the food industry from the beginning of 2024.
Steph brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position and her energy and enthusiasm for teaching children about food preparation and healthy eating has been very evident.
We wish Steph all the best for her future endeavours and thank her for her service to the BANB6 community.
Nicole Kiriakopoulos
Nicole has taught numerous Studio groups and year levels during her time at BANB6, most recently year 3 and 4 in Yellow 7. Next year Nicole will take up a teaching position at Woodville Gardens B-6 School.
Nicole is a versatile and flexible educator who has brought great value to the staff team at BANB6, and we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
Kim Schiller
We wish Kim and her family all the best as they prepare to welcome another member of their family in the coming weeks.
Kim will be taking 2024 as maternity / parenting leave and will return to BANB6 in 2025. All the best Kim.
