From The Principal
Dear BANB6 Community
As another term draws to a close, we are fast approaching the halfway mark of another year. I look forward to connecting with members of our school community next Tuesday at Family Connections Day. Don’t forget to drop into the piazza after your appointment with your child’s Learning Advisor for a sausage in bread and a chat.
As we finish term two, I take the opportunity to offer gratitude and thanks to all the amazing staff of BANB6 who again have tirelessly worked together to create the best learning environments for our children. They are a fabulous, dedicated group of people with whom the entire community should be very proud. I wish them all a safe and restful mid-year holiday break.
Kind Regards
Darren
Staffing Information
From the beginning of term three, Nicole Kiriakopoulos will step in as Yellow 7 Learning Advisor. Many of the Yellow 7 learners have had Nicole previously as a Learning Advisor and she is well known and respected within the BANB6 community.
On behalf of the BANB6 community, I thank Xi Fang for stepping in as interim Learning Advisor in Yellow 7 after Nathan Anderson’s departure.
Xi and Nicole will meet with families together at next week’s Family Connections Day to discuss learner’s progress and outline plans for Yellow 7 for the remainder of the year.
As Nicole has been working one day per week in three Purple Studios, her move into Yellow 7 also impacts those Studios. Below is the plan to cover Nicole now that she will be taking the reins in Yellow 7:
Purple 1

Innovations Insights from Sam
Purple 3 and 4
We have started the Kimochis lessons with Nicole & Aimee. Kimochis help learners to identify and become more aware of their feelings, to then express themselves in positive ways. Learners have been exposed to a range of feelings and vocabulary and have looked at ‘comfortable and uncomfortable’ feelings. From here, they have sorted the feelings into these two categories based on their own experiences. They have had discussions about different feelings and have acted out little scenarios based on their ideas.

We attended a fantastic Camp Quality puppet show performance in week 8. Camp Quality’s cancer education program has been teaching kids about cancer with a fun and interactive puppet performance, for over 33 years. The program focuses on telling the broader cancer story, including how to support someone who is facing their own cancer diagnosis or that of a loved one.
Our Purple Learners viewed 'The Big Party' which was a 30-minute puppet show about a girl who has a brain tumour. It is an empowering story, using interactive puppetry to teach us about cancer and the importance of positivity and recognising our own strengths.

For our last Kitchen/Garden session of term 2, we harvested herbs, lemons & potatoes, and we planted some broad beans in the ground. To celebrate the end of the term, we made yummy pizzas! We love gardening with Tom and cooking in the kitchen with Steph, it is so much fun!

What's been happening in Purple 5 and 6?
What a busy term we have had so far, we cannot believe it is almost the end of term.
We would like to share some learning we have done during the term. During numeracy both studios have been learning about part-part-whole 0-5 using a range of hands-on activities and resources. A game called shake and spill was the most popular.

Purple West have also been busy in the Kitchen Garden foraging for food, gardening, cooking and of course doing the dishes.

Purple East
Purple East were fortunate to have Michael from Novita come and share a wheelchair awareness program with our learners. The focus was on generating empathy and awareness of the issues and challenges facing people living with disability. Students were involved in playing wheel chair sports. The children had a great time with this great experience.
This term we also had some visitors from Camp Quality come out to perform a puppet show to our purple learners. The puppet show was called ‘The Big Party’ and told the story of Ariel, a young person who has a brain tumour. This interactive performance helped our learners to understand cancer and how to support someone with cancer.
Both of these valuable experiences gave the children a broader understanding of showing empathy towards others.

Yellow 2 and 3
In Y2 and Y3, we continue our learning journey about different communities and helpers. We welcomed the firefighters from SA Metropolitan Fire Service to talk about fire safety and their jobs in a community. The children liked sitting in the fire truck and explored the fire rescue equipment. This term, we also went for a walk to the Enfield Library. The children enjoyed learning about a librarian and the services that a library can offer to the local community. In Numeracy, we are working towards building up our knowledge on 2D and 3D shapes.

Yellow 4
Yellow 4 has recently, been enjoying focusing on maths activities for most of the day. This has enabled us to do some deep learning into the various concepts. We have particularly enjoyed working on the properties of solid shapes and learning about angles. We explored our school looking at how they are used around the community and in the designs of buildings.

Yellow 6

Wheelchair Empathy Program
We were a part of the Wheelchair Empathy Program in week 5 This program focused on building empathy towards those in the community with a disability and provided us with an understanding of the physical and sporting options available to people in a wheelchair.

Kitchen/Garden - We have continued to enjoy our Kitchen/Garden sessions this term. We have been focused throughout our sessions and have continued to build on our knowledge and skills. We absolutely loved making pizzas for our final session – they were delicious!
