From the Principal

Dear BANB6 Community

Our school community is very much looking forward to joining together next Tuesday (July 5) for another Family Connections Day. Over the past two and a half years, we have not been able to hold as many of these important community events as we would have liked due to COVID, so we are excited to welcome our families to BANB6 on Tuesday.

A reminder to families that there is no school on this day as staff will be involved with meeting families. I also remind families to please ensure you have a time booked with your child’s learning advisor. This will be a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate successes and address any concerns. To ensure the smooth running of the day, we request that families please be on time to their appointments with learning advisors.

When families have completed their meetings with learning advisors, the BANB6 staff warmly welcome all families to join us in the garden for a slice of pizza and a chat. Our Baristas will also be set up in the garden and will have delicious hot drinks for sale for $2.

We are looking forward to partnering with my OSHC from next term and they will also be present on the day to meet with families, answer questions and provide information about enrolling your child in OSHC and / or Vacation Care.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday next week.

Staffing News

We welcome Wendy Barlow to the BANB6 Community. Wendy will be joining us at the beginning of term 3 as learning advisor in Red 2 until the end of the year, replacing Louise who is preparing for the birth of her child. Wendy will be joining us on Family Connections Day to meet with Red 2 families.

We wish Wendy all the best as she prepares to begin her time with us and also Louise and her family as they prepare for an exciting new edition.

Yours Sincerely

Darren

NCCD Parent Information

National Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

All schools are required to collect information about the numbers of students that they provide adjustments to under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and Disability Standards of Education.

This data is used as the basis for national funding.

The NCCD involves the collection of;

  • The number of students receiving adjustments to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students.
  • The level of adjustment provided to students
  • Students type of disability if known

Under the model the definition of disability is broad and includes learning difficulties, health and mental health conditions.  If your child is identified for inclusion in the Collection, the required information will be included in this year’s data collection.

If you have any questions about the data collection, please contact one of our leadership team.  Further information can be found on the attached fact sheet below :

Purple East and Yellow 1

Purple East and Yellow 1 learners have had a busy term!  We have been exploring the question :

How have our lives changed from the past to now?

Our investigation has led us to look at toys, games, technology, and school from the past.  We enjoyed making cup phones and speaking with our families about games that they enjoyed playing when they were children.

Recently we had a visit from a Policeman who talked to us about what Police people do and how they help to keep us safe in the community.  Our learners had lots of questions to ask about what the job entails and the equipment that a Police person carries with them.

The kitchen/garden has been a highlight for many of our learners.  We have harvested a great variety of herbs, fruits, and vegetables to make some delicious meals to taste and share. Looking at bush tucker in Reconciliation week showed us plants that we have growing in our school that can be used for foods and drinks

Yellow 4

Yellow 4 has been busy this term integrating learning how to write procedures in literacy and exploring angles in our world in maths amongst other things. The kitchen garden is very good for procedure writing so we have been using this as a springboard to learning. We have also learnt how to make kites, paper helicopters, paper planes and playdough.  We also had a trip to Monarto Zoo which we enjoyed despite a bus breakdown on the way. The children showed how well they can manage and how resilient they are when things go a little wrong which does happen in life. We still got to go on the African bus ride around the zoo. Below are some photos of the term.

Yellow 2

Yellow 2 have had a busy Term 2. In week 8 we visited the Adelaide Zoo.  We had a wonderful day looking at the animals, having our face painted, visiting the Educational Centre.  Our highlight was when the lions roared at us and watching the monkeys hanging from the trees.

We have spent the term learning how to write procedures.  We have made lots of fun things including kites, playdough and pirate hats.

Reconciliation week was enjoyable.  We all loved the activities around the campfire and enjoyed having the opportunity to taste kangaroo, drink special tea and eat delicious biscuits.

Yellow 3

In Yellow 3 we have been inquiring into the living things we share the planet with. We have explored the features of plants and animals culminating in a trip to the zoo.  The children have extended their vocabulary and have shown their learning by creating dioramas of different habitats.

In Numeracy we have explored shapes and their features in addition to using the count on and doubles strategies in our number learning. The children have been learning about using friendly signals.

Red 3

Red 3 learners had enjoyed celebrating Reconciliation Day. They had an opportunity to learn more about aboriginal history ,food and culture. As a part of celebration Red3 studio made Aboriginal flags for the whole school. Another highlight for this term was the AFL Max camp. The learners did lots of activities based on teamwork and being brave.

Yellow South West

Yellow South West are about to finish a term’s worth of thinking and learning about Reading Strategies. We have covered Predicting, Questioning, Making Connections, Visualising, Self-Monitoring, Inferencing and Summarising. These skills are explicitly modelled and practiced throughout many learning areas of each school day. The students have transferred their knowledge from read-alouds, independent reading, library borrowing sessions, building vocabulary and the English unit of ‘Building Characters’. These skills are needed for good comprehension whilst reading. Next term we will use these skills as we introduce Guided Reading to our English block.

Red Neighbourhood

Year 5 and 6 learners went on their 1-night leadership camp to AFL MAX. Activities included:

Aerial Zone including rock climbing and trampolining

Skill Zone to learn/ practice football skills

Interactive Zone to learn/ practice problem solving and hand/ foot/ eye coordination.

Team games to practice teamwork, communication, resilience

Inflatable Zone for a bit of fun

In literacy we have completed our unit on short stories and have been exploring media and advertising. This includes analysing, comparing, and understanding how and why advertisements persuade people to buy or do things. Learners have found this highly interesting and we have had some great discussions and questioning so far!
