Purple West

This semester Purple West have been inquiring int ‘Who we are and our family are, where we are from and who came before us’. More recently we have been looking into the cultures and countries that represent Purple West. A map of the world has helped us discover where our families are from and what flags represent these countries. We have discovered that we come from all over the world, and most importantly, we are all grateful to live together in harmony.
Together we celebrate our First Nations People and the following countries:
Syria : Lebanon : Afghanistan : Pakistan : Rwanda : Cambodia : Australia
Vietnam : India : Bangladesh : Philippines : Tanzania

Yellow South West
In Yellow South West the learners have recently enjoyed their Sustainability sessions with Sam. Using various water samples collected from around the school (i.e., rain garden, aquaponics, frog pond) the children inquired what the differences may be in the water samples and why. They thoroughly enjoyed testing the PH levels and recording their findings.

Yellow 7 enjoyed some time exploring the Banb6 Raingarden after learning about the Kaurna weather seasons with Sonny.

Red Neighbourhood
Year 5 and 6 news from Red1, Red2, Red3, Red5, Red5
Year 5 and 6 have had a strong start to term 2.
As our daily one-word vocabulary lessons resulted in amazing growth across the cohort in term 1, we have decided to increase it to two new words each day. We are excited to see how our learners develop their understanding of these words over the next few weeks.
In Literacy Red Learners are now putting all the short story learning from term 1 into action by developing and creating their very own short story. The aim is to publish a short story book that can go into the library (and possible our local Enfield library.)
We are also getting ready for Reconciliation Week by learning some traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games. Learners have selected a game to research and are creating procedural iMovies to share with BANB6. Then as part of the forest activities in Reconciliation Week, some of the Red learners will be teaching the games they have learnt to all the younger students.
In week 2, Year 6s had an amazing excursion to West Lakes Aquatic Centre where they were provided an opportunity to learn how to surf, sail, canoe and kayak. For many of the learners, this was the first time they had experienced these aquatic sports. On top of having a fun-filled day, the Aquatic Centre educators taught us about the importance of identifying potential risks/ hazards and how to keep ourselves safe in the water.
