From the Principal

Dear BANB6 Community

We look forward to welcoming all of our children in years’ 2-6 back to school from the beginning of next week. Whilst it has been wonderful getting to know our new Reception children and having our year one children onsite, we are all very much looking forward to being back as a whole school community from Monday next week (February 14).

We especially welcome families who are just beginning their learning journey at BANB6. We hope that your time with us is special and that you feel welcomed into the BANB6 family.

We have welcomed the following staff members to BANB6:

Ali Thomson

Beginning as Deputy Principal, Ali comes to us with a wealth of leadership experience after having served as Principal of Pooraka Primary School for the previous four years. Prior to this Ali has served in numerous leadership roles including Deputy Principal at John Hartley B-7 School.

Aimee Thatcher

Aimee has taken up a position as year 1/2 Learning Advisor in Purple 3. Aimee has previously served as a classroom teacher at Elizabeth Vale Primary School and also Modbury Primary School.

Hannah Caspar

Hannah can be found filling various role throughout the Purple Neighbourhood, including a day per week in Purple 1 and Purple 5 Studios. Hannah has spent the previous few years teaching internationally in Italy and China.

Steph McLeod

Steph joins the BANB6 community as Kitchen Specialist and brings a wealth of experience and an incredible energy to our fabulous Kitchen Garden program.

Liv Fedele

Liv returns to BANB6 one day per week in Red 5 after completing a teaching position at Thiele Primary School.

Louise Kitto

We also welcome back Louise to a full-time teaching position in the Red Neighbourhood after having most of 2021 away on maternity leave.

On behalf of the BANB6 community, we welcome our new staff members to our school and look forward to working with them throughout the year.

In amongst all of the COVID19 uncertainty, we excitedly look forward to the 2022 school year. Our learning environments are warm, welcoming and engaging, encouraging our children to learn and inquire. Learning Advisors have been working hard in their teams and look forward to learning alongside their children to challenge, question and inspire.

Beyond the four walls of studios, we will continue our whole school focus on sustainability with all children being given the opportunity to engage in the raft of exciting learning experiences available including the Rain Garden, Aquaponics, Bee Keeping, Kitchen Garden and our ongoing focus on reducing land fill waste across the school.

Sincerely

Darren

School Photo Day

School Photo Day is on Tuesday March 8th. There will also be a 'make up' day for any absent students (date yet to be set).

In 2021 we returned to the traditional group type photo as requested by many parents and these were successful. However, due to the current restrictions in schools and the covid19 situation the 2022 school photos will be composite style (portrait). We hope to return to traditional group style in 2023.

Photo order envelopes will be sent home soon.

Please note that all children will have their photograph taken even if you do not wish to purchase a photo pack. If you do not wish your child to be included in the class photo please advise your child's learning advisor. Please ensure all children are wearing school uniform on the photo day.

Waterworld Excursion

Friday March 11th is our annual excursion to Waterworld Aquatic Centre at Ridgehaven.

All Reception to Year 6 children will receive an excursion consent note along with a swimming consent form. Children must have returned both notices to attend the excursion, along with payment.

Buses will leave at approximately 9.00 am so please ensure that children arrive at school on time. We wil be returning to school at approximately 2.30pm.

Please read the note carefully for what to bring on the day and also indicate on the form whether children are able to use the waterslides or not.

The cost for this excursion is only $6 as it has been subsidised by the school to cover the cost of the private bus transport to and from Waterworld.

This is always a fun day for all!

A new school card application must be applied for each year.

If you are not eligible for school card assistance and are having difficulty in paying your fees, please discuss this with the Business Manager.

Naplan Years 3 and 5

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.

NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards.

At Banb6, Naplan practice test will be held on March 24th and the Naplan online test week will be between the 10th and 20th of May.

If you have any questions regarding Naplan testing please see your child's Learning Advisor or our Deputy Principal Ali Thomson.
